LockDown Technology Explained: Integrated Protection without Auxiliary Locks

What is LockDown Technology?

Both the Obexion and Equilux ranges of roller shutters incorporate a unique ‘LockDown Technology’ to ensure that the shutter can never be left in an unsecured position where it could be forced open.

The unique profiles lock the shutter in any stop position, whether fully closed or not – even when left partially open due to user error.

Why It Matters

This means no auxiliary locking is required, manual or electronic, and this security roller shutter is certified for installation either internally fitted or externally face fix, making it the ideal solution when the shutter is the first and last point of exit from a building.

The Difference from Other Systems

Unlike certain manufacturers’ auto self-locking mechanisms, or auxiliary locking methods, Charter Global’s LockDown Technology is especially significant in live threat situations.

Some auto-lock systems on the market will not activate until the shutter is fully closed, meaning that it can be forced fully open whilst still being deployed, leaving employees and goods exposed until the shutter is completely in position.

Similarly a small obstacle or wedge on the floor can prevent a shutter closing and locking fully, leaving it vulnerable, whereas LockDown Technology prevents the shutter being lifted at any stage of its deployment.

An attack test to show this is shown below.

Metal wedges are inserted under the shutter to try to force it up after it has been deployed. The methodology is to try to bend the bottom lath enough to insert a scissor jack under the shutter in the hope of then jacking up the shutter curtain. The more force that is exerted on the shutter the closer the laths lock together to prevent any upward movement.
