Security Shutter for Overseas: Export to Khartoum, Sudan
Security Shutters for Overseas – Export to Khartoum, Sudan
Equilux Security Shutters, manufactured within the UK by Charter Global, are designed specifically for premium domestic properties with complete consideration for architectural design. On some occasions, we’ve been asked to provide security shutters for overseas properties. A client based in Khartoum, Sudan, required exportation of our shutters to their large new build property.
The location and surrounding area in Africa presents a very different specification requirement to that in the UK; water ingress is not an issue! However, sandstorms are common and the shutter specification had to withstand the abrasion of airborne sand.
Properties in Khartoum have insect screens to all the doors and windows, and the shutter specification was to include a separate motorised insect screen integrated into the design. This was an exciting project for Charter Global, as it gave us good experience in exporting security shutters for overseas customers.
Each Equilux Shutter and Insect screen is commissioned using the test rig in the factory, prior to export to Khartoum, Sudan.
The project itself
To kick off the home security shutter project, we held a meeting with the architect at Charter Global head office in Reading. Charter technical design team and the architect worked in close co-ordination to create a fully integrated security stainless steel lintel system.
This includes an independently operated insect screen within the shutter lintel, that catered for all of the opening on the property.
The curtain is black anodized to ensures maximum protection from local sand storms.
Using the renowned LockDown profile system, unique to the Equilux Shutter range, ensured maximum security and minimum roll sizes – keeping the shutter and insect screen combination compact within the structural lintel. An anodized finish was used for the shutter curtain; this unique finish is integral to the metal and cannot peel or flake, offering the maximum protection from sandstorms.
Charter Global developed a bespoke dual side guide to cater for the insect screen and the security shutter, concealed within the wall construction to offer the maximum security and maintain the clear visual aesthetics of the building when the shutters are raised. The bottom of the insect screen slots into a recess in the window sill to ensure the opening is fully protected.
The shutters are a supply only item to Khartoum, where local engineers will install the lintels, guides and shutters. To ensure complete ease of install once the product is on site, the shutters and insect screens are pre-installed into the structural lintel in the factory in Reading and set up for each specific window or door opening.
An adjustable test rig has been created for the project and each Equilux Built-In Shutter Lintel / Insect Mesh combination is fully commissioned prior to leaving the factory. Engineers from Khartoum will be attending the factory during this process for training on the installation, and ongoing maintenance for the shutters.
The Equilux Security Shutter and Insect Screen operate independently; within a very compact combined side guide.
At Equilux, we appreciate that customers in different countries may have very different needs. Our flexibility and experience means that we’re equipped in exporting security shutters for overseas properties.
